The Society for Conservation Biology is an inclusive scientific society, and participation in our conferences is not restricted based on nationality, ethnicity, or religion. Our conferences are intended to provide an open platform for scientific exchange among conservation researchers and practitioners from across the world.
We require the ECCB participants to respect and follow the SCB’s humanitarian values, including commitments to peace, inclusion, and respect for human rights.
At the same time, SCB Europe and the local organizers are very aware that the current global political situation and conflicts are deeply painful for many people. Our aim for ECCB is to ensure a respectful and safe space for participants of all ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds, where scientific dialogue can take place in a constructive and considerate manner.
We recognize that these issues raise difficult ethical questions and that members of our community may differ in their perspectives on how academic institutions and conferences should respond to geopolitical conflicts.
Our goal as organizers is to uphold SCB’s principles of inclusivity, respectful dialogue, and the free exchange of scientific knowledge, while maintaining a conference environment that is welcoming to participants from all backgrounds.
To support an inclusive congress for the worldwide conservation biology community, we ask presenters not to include or refer to current political conflicts or geopolitical issues in their presentations. Our goal is to create a space where all participants, from all backgrounds and regions, feel welcome.
